joe2.8 for jensen linux

I installed RedHat 4.0 on our Jensen Alpha, and running joe causes a
core dump. So I recompiled joe2.8 from the original source code
from ftp.std.com:/src/editors. I had to change some "pointers cast
to int" to "pointers cast to long int". The compile succeeded after
removed the compiler option -O, but the linker gave the following
message:

ld: Warning: size of symbol `error' changed from 4 to 444 in /lib/libc.so.6

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

P.S. While trying to mail this message from tapa.admu.edu.ph (our jensen
alpha box), I used the command:

mail -s "joe2.8 for jensen alpha" axp-list@redhat.com < thismessage

and I got a core dump! So I had to mail this from pusit.admu.edu.ph.
Can anyone tell me what's happening here? Thanks.
