My setup looks like the following:
/linux/quake
xquake
id1/pak0.pak

When I try running xquake, I get the following:

Added packfile ./id1/pak0.pak (339 files)
FindFile: can't find gfx/pop.lmp
Playing shareware version.
Error: You must have the registered version to use modified games

Apparently other people can get v106 to work...any ideas?
