Well, I'm stumped. I managed to upgrade my system to use the new glibc
in RedHat's devel directory, then installed the new PAM, pwdb, NetKit
and nettools packages. Under normal circumstances, the system works
just fine. Without nsswitch.conf present in /etc there are no
anomolies. However, I have been utterly unsuccessful in getting NIS to
operate. After spending about 6 hours today, I throw up my hands.
Is NIS support supposed to operate with glibc-1.99? If so, is it still
the case that ypbind is NOT required? I hope that's the case, as it
will build under glibc on the Alpha only with great difficulty (must
-D_USE_SVID and link against -lnsl..), and the client child segfaults
repeatedly when executed.. I can SEE the entry points for the yp_*
functions when running nm on libnsl.so.1, so what incantations are
needed to actually USE this stuff?
In all other respects, networking seems just fine. What on earth am I
missing? Yes, IRTFM and it appears that I've been covering all bases.
