It would be helpful to know:

1. what version of LINUX is installed, what kernel is crashing, and what
are the symptoms

2. what is the machine configuration

3. what does the .config file contain for the kernel you are trying to
build.

The 2.0 kernels are the stable ones; for best results, IMHO, you should be
combining stock 2.0.27 plus the axp-diffs-2.0.21 available at azstarnet and
mirrors.

I have a 466MHz PC164 that I've used to do full X builds of about 1 hour,
with no instability problems. RedHat is building a *lot* on their 433MHz
PC164, also with no problems. Something is amiss in your setup.
