Thats not so hot. I suspect that a 500MHz machine needs lots of cache.

Digital has a 500 MHz workstation with an 8M cache. Unfortunatly I don't
know anything else about it. They are supposed to be sending me one, so
hopefully that will change.

Linux does not run on SMP alphas (yet), so you are sort of out of
luck on that front. I have not seen 500MHz CPUs in any SMP system,
though we just got a 4 processor machine with 400MHz CPUs. I think most
of Digital's SMP machines are designed to be servers though. I don't think
they have any type of SMP workstation at all.
