Since I obtained the Digital Multia Service Information Manual yesterday,
I happened to have looked at it just last night. The permissible memory
configurations are on page 7. The ones using 12M SIMMS are:

slot0 slot1 slot2 slot3 total
12 12 0 0 24
12 12 8 8 40
12 12 16 16 56
12 12 32 32 64
12 12 64 64 152

The manual also notes:

SIMMs are used in pairs. You can use 12 MB SIMMs only on models VX41
and VX42. To be recognized as 12 MB SIMMs, they must be in slots 0
and 1. If you use 12-MB SIMMs in slots 2 or 3, they are recognized as
8 MB SIMMs.

One URL for the manual is
http://www.brouhaha.com/~eric/computers/udb.html. If you have a docless
UDB, I really suggest you get it -- I can already see how valuable it is
to have this information. (Obviously, though I'm quoting Eric's message
above, this message is not directed to him, since this is his own WWW
site.)

Eric's page also points to another site with info, Annex Technology
Europe, at http://www.annex.co.uk/systems/udb.html. On that site, you may
want to look at http://www.annex.co.uk/systems/udbinsid.html. In
particular, http://www.annex.co.uk/systems/udbmem.html lists the possible
memory configurations
