You could try forcing them to turn on at the same time while your
awake. Try leaving the door open on the refrigerator for a couple of
minutes and adjust the thermostat on the AC to turn on. Although be sure
to close the door on the refrigerator, don't want bad food! ;-)

This way you can see if this might be the cause of the problem.
