As I am in the unfortunate situation of having to share my bedroom
with an AlphaPC 164LX running a 21164 with 533 MHz, which I would like
to keep running at night, I decided to reduce the noises it emits as
far as possible (and reasonable).
The main source for noise seems to be the cooling fan on top of the cpu
heatsink. Is it possible to trade it in for something more silent? Is
the fan some proprietary alpha gadget, or can a standard x86 cooling fan
be used? The board's manual says it's a 60mm fan, and a pointer in the
mailing list archive directed me to Excess Solutions, an US hardware
dealer, selling Panaflo 60mmx15mm heatsink coolers for $5.00 a piece.
Did anybody try one of these?
In general: any hints about shutting up an alpha greatly appreciated.
chris
